This article makes an excellent point about Democratic healthcare reform plans.  Can the government force us to purchase something as requirement for citizenship?  Their plans involve the mandate that all Americans must purchase healthcare insurance from a private institution.  Healthcare, however, is not the same as owning a car, it is a necessity to continue living.

Of course, I’m also skeptical of any law that essentially forces citizens to give their money to private interests.  Their plans are an attempt to cover everyone while not leaving the insurance companies out in the cold.  After all, they gotta get their slice of the pie, too, or the industry will strong-arm all other attempts at reform.
